PracSuite supports USB barcode scanners to speed up adding stock or product items to invoices.
How it works
PracSuite doesn't integrate directly with barcode scanners. Instead, it simply receives the text output that a barcode scanner produces. Most USB barcode scanners work by emulating a keyboard -- when a barcode is scanned, the scanner types the barcode number into whatever field is currently active, exactly as if it had been entered manually. Because of this, virtually any standard USB barcode scanner should work with PracSuite without any special configuration. We don't recommend specific models, as most scanners behave the same way for this purpose.
Setup
Before scanning, ensure each item has its barcode number entered in the Barcode field:
Open each item you plan to scan and enter its barcode number in the Barcode field.
You can test your scanner at this point -- place your cursor in the Barcode field and scan a barcode; it should type the number into the field automatically. Alternatively, you can enter the barcode number manually.
Scanning items on an invoice
On the invoice screen, click into the Select an item dropdown.
Scan the barcode with your scanner, or manually type the barcode number into the search field.
The matching item code will appear for you to select and add to the invoice.
Some barcode scanners trigger an 'enter key' event after scanning a barcode, which can automatically add the item to the invoice.
