When Enable Alternate Payee Providers is on, Medicare claim payments are sent to the alternate payee provider selected. The claim itself is still processed under the treating practitioner.

When a practice registers a practitioner for online claiming with Medicare, it specifies the bank account that claims are paid to. This setting overrides that bank account and replaces it with the bank account Medicare holds for the selected alternate payee provider.

These bank account details are held by Medicare directly. They are not updated through Tyro Health or PracSuite.

Enable alternate Medicare payee providers by navigating to a practitioner file.

Go to Settings > Practitioners > Practitioners

Select the desired practitioner.

Click Edit to make changes to the file.

Under the Medicare header, toggle Enable Alternate Payee Providers, click Add, then select the applicable business, alternate payee provider and provider number.

Click Save. Your Medicare alternate payee has now been successfully setup.
