How to send an ad hoc SMS

Sending a one-off SMS to a patient or contact from PracSuite

You can send a one-off SMS to a patient, or to a contact on their file, directly from PracSuite.

Wherever a mobile number appears in PracSuite, you'll see a mobile icon next to it. Click this icon to open a Send SMS window with that number already filled in as the recipient. You'll find this icon:

  • On the patient's Details tab, next to their Mobile number

  • In the appointment details pane, next to the patient's mobile number

  • Next to referring doctor and patient file contact mobile numbers

To send the SMS:

  1. Click the mobile icon next to the number you want to send to.

  2. Click Use Template to start from an existing SMS template, or type your message.

  3. Check the character count and credit required. Longer messages use more SMS credits.

  4. Tick Use Sender ID if you want to send from your registered sender ID instead of a PracSuite number. Note that replies won't be returned to PracSuite when using a sender ID.

  5. Choose Send Now, or select Schedule Send and set a send date and time.

  6. Click Send Now (the button label updates to reflect a scheduled send).

If you need to send the same SMS to a large group of patients at once, see How to Send an SMS or Email to Referring Doctors and Organisations in Bulk, or Creating Email & SMS Campaigns.
